Airtel Zambia Launches Nation’s First AI Spam Alert Service
Airtel Zambia launches free AI-powered spam alert service to fight fraud, enhance cyber safety, and support Zambia’s smart digital vision.

Airtel Zambia has launched Zambia’s first ever spam alert service. The Initiative is an Artificial Intelligence- AI powered spam alert service and not just a technological advancement but a step towards our collective commitment to building a digitally secure Zambia.
Minister of Technology and Science Honourable Felix Mutati commended Airtel Zambia for this bold innovation, a service that takes advantage of the power of Artificial Intelligence to classify and filter suspicious SMS messages. This spam industry began in 1978 and over the years they have improved. During the World Economic Forum, it was mentioned that spam is the third largest global industry amounting to 10.5 trillion Us dollars. In an age where digital communication is integral to every aspect of our lives, the service directly contributes to the protection of our citizens from fraud, scams and unsolicited messages. As a government, even as we continue to champion innovation, we are aware of the threats that accompany rapid digital transformation hence our excitement when we were told about the launch today.
Our 8th National Development plan(8NDP) outlines digital transformation and innovation as a key strategic development area and we are determined to build a resilient digital economy that leverages ICT for inclusive growth, improved service delivery and enhanced national security.
The spam alert service sits at the very heart of this agenda. It will promote digital trust and reinforce our goal to protect consumers in the digital space. It also aligns with our efforts to create a smart Zambia, where innovation is people centred and services are secure and accessible.
By proactively addressing spam and potentially harmful communications, airtel is not just enhancing customer experience but supporting national objectives on Cyber Security, trust and digital literacy. This service comes at no cost to the customer, which aligns with our government ‘s call for inclusive access to safe and secure ICT services.
