The company has already trained 5,000 employees in AI fundamentals, signaling its intention to actively shape the region’s digital future.

Safaricom  plans to invest over $500 million in AI infrastructure across East Africa over the next three years. The investment is geared toward enhancing connectivity and establishing a robust, scalable AI ecosystem that supports innovation and productivity across various sectors. The company has already trained 5,000 employees in AI fundamentals, signaling its intention to actively shape the region’s digital future rather than remain a passive consumer of global technologies.

Announced at the Connected Africa Summit 2025, the initiative aligns with broader goals of fostering a digitally inclusive and interconnected continent. Safaricom reiterated its commitment to driving Africa’s digital transformation through strategic investments, partnerships, and accessible digital solutions. The company’s focus remains on enabling intelligent, seamless, and inclusive digital experiences that empower communities and fuel long-term socio-economic development.

Safaricom is leading by example. We are building the digital infrastructure that’s transforming everyday lives and laying the foundation for Africa’s intelligent economy. From powering AI-ready data centers to enabling real-time agricultural insights and digital financial services, it is building the digital infrastructure that will power Africa’s intelligent economy. The question is no longer whether Africa will be AI ready ,it’s whether the world is ready for African AI.
