This moves forms part of Algeria’s broader strategic vision to build a modern, connected digital economy that integrates seamlessly with regional and global ecosystems.

Algeria has taken a decisive step toward becoming a leading technological hub in Africa and the Mediterranean with the official launch of its 5G technology tender. The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications  recently announced that the Regulatory Authority for Post and Electronic Communications has opened the bidding process, following directives from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to deepen financial and technological studies in preparation for this major digital leap.

This moves forms part of Algeria’s broader strategic vision to build a modern, connected digital economy that integrates seamlessly with regional and global ecosystems. The phased deployment of the 5G network will prioritize densely populated urban areas and key industrial zones, underscoring the government’s commitment to making digital transformation a core engine of economic growth and digital sovereignty.

“We are not merely launching a new technology, but we are working on strengthening infrastructure, driving economic growth, creating sustainable jobs, and launching a national vision aimed at accelerating innovation, empowering youth, and placing Algeria at the heart of the global digital map”

-Sid Ali Zerrouki, Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Algeria

Key milestones and priorities for the 5G rollout include:

  • Tender dossiers available for download from May 29 to June 1, 2025.
  • Provisional licenses expected to be awarded by July 3, 2025, coinciding with Algeria’s 63rd Independence Day celebrations.
  • Official 5G service launch slated for the third quarter of 2025.
  • Initial focus sectors include smart cities, Industry 4.0, digital health, and smart mobility.
  • Transparent tender conditions adhering to the highest international standards.
  • Competitive framework designed to attract global technology leaders while promoting local innovation.

This strategic initiative is a clear signal that Algeria is ready to lead in Africa’s digital transformation journey. By embracing cutting-edge technology and fostering an innovation-driven environment, Algeria aims to not only enhance its own digital economy but also set a benchmark for regional cooperation and growth.
