AXIAN Telecom Sustainability Report: Powering Inclusive Growth Across Africa

AXIAN Telecom  presents its 2024 Sustainability Report, highlighting its unwavering commitment to sustainable practices and its impact on the communities it serves. The report encapsulates our efforts to drive digital and financial inclusivity, foster socio-economic growth, and champion environmental stewardship across Africa.

Our approach to sustainability is holistic, embedding it into our operations to drive innovation and meaningful contributions to Africa’s economic, social, and environmental goals. By leveraging digital technologies, we aim to unlock opportunities and empower communities across our regions, demonstrating our impact across key areas such as Gender Equality, Climate Action, and Affordable and Clean Energy.

LEADING WITH PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY.
Conduct business with integrity, ensuring ethical operations and bridging the digital divide. In 2024, over 200,000 smartphones were distributed in Tanzania through AXIAN Telecom’s device financing Initiative-95% of buyers became active data users. Conducting business with purpose means using the company’s digital infrastructure and fintech platforms to create lasting impact. Through the Data4All programme, AXIAN Telecom is bridging the digital divide by making smartphones and data access more affordable. Flexible daily instalment plans empower people to connect supporting digital inclusion and economic participation across underserved communities.

 

EMPOWERING LIVES AND BUILDING COMMUNITIES.

To foster an inclusive and diverse workplace, nurture talent, and enhance employee wellbeing. In 2024, AXIAN Telecom delivered 145,000+ hours of employee training and supported 200+ women in the company through Smile & Her while empowering thousands more men. In the company’s markets through digital skills programmes like Tech is Female and Dagan Connectee.

AXIAN Telecom continues to build a resilient and inclusive workforce while uplifting communities. The company is  strengthening internal capabilities through AXIAN University and other learning platforms the Smile & Her initiative empowers women employees to unlock leadership and career growth opportunities. Beyond the workplace, programs like Tech is Female and Dagan Connectée are helping girls and young women build digital skills-part of the company’s broader commitment to equity, wellbeing, and digital empowerment across its markets.

 

CHAMPIONING ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

To reduce its carbon footprint and enhance environmental sustainability. In 2024, AXIAN Telecom achieved a 29% renewable energy share and planted over 53,955 trees. AXIAN Telecom is actively working to reduce its carbon footprint through Innovative and sustainable initiatives. The company’s Solar4All project aims to solarise telecom sites across Madagascar and Uganda. The company have set ambitious decarbonisation targets validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative and are committed to enhancing environmental reporting transparency. In Madagascar, for example, data centres are now powered by solar energy. Meanwhile, reforestation programmes in Tanzania and Madagascar are contributing to biodiversity protection and climate resilience.
