Ghana’s Telcos Pledge $150 Million Network Investment as Data Values Rise
The commitment was revealed during a press conference at the Ministry’s headquarters in Accra, where the Minister also announced an across-the-board increase in mobile data bundle values, effective July 1, 2025.

In a move to address long-standing concerns about pricing and service quality in Ghana’s telecom sector, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, announced that the country’s three major telecom operators—MTN Ghana , Telecel Ghana, and AirtelTigo —have collectively pledged to invest $150 million into network improvements by the end of 2025.
The commitment was revealed during a press conference at the Ministry’s headquarters in Accra, where the Minister also announced an across-the-board increase in mobile data bundle values, effective July 1, 2025.
$150 Million Pledge Signals Industry Response to Regulatory Pressure
The $150 million investment by the telcos is part of a broader push by the government to ensure better network quality and billing transparency. The National Communications Authority (NCA ) will conduct a nationwide quality of service assessment in Q4 2025, with penalties for operators who fall short. Additionally, quarterly billing integrity tests will be instituted to curb inaccuracies and build customer trust.
Data Bundles Get a Boost
Coinciding with the investment announcement, mobile network operators will increase data bundle values by up to 15%, without a corresponding price change:
-
MTN Ghana: A 15% increase across all data bundles. The reinstated GHC399 Social Media bundle will now offer 214GB, up from the previously available 92GB under the GHC350 Flexi bundle.
-
Telecel Ghana: A 10% increase, with the GHC400 bundle rising from 190GB to 250GB.
-
AirtelTigo Ghana: A 10% increase, with the GHC400 bundle moving from 195GB to 236GB.
Broader Sector Outlook
The Minister also hinted at future reductions in data pricing, pending tax rationalisation efforts by the Ministry of Finance. A sector-wide telecom tariff review is underway, which could further enhance affordability and competition.
The announcement was attended by the CEOs of the major telcos, senior Ministry officials, and heads of regulatory agencies, marking a unified front in improving digital access and infrastructure in Ghana.
