SORA Technology , a pioneering startup leveraging drones and AI for global challenges, announced the first close of its late seed funding round, raising approximately JPY 670 million (equivalent to about USD 4.8 million). This capital injection is earmarked for scaling the company’s tech-driven public health and climate resilience initiatives across Africa.
The funding round saw participation from a diverse group of mission-aligned investors, including Nissay Capital (Sustainability Challenge Fund), SMBC Venture Capital, DRONE FUND, Central Japan Seed Fund, and Rheos Capital Works. The company emphasized that this investment represents a significant vote of confidence in its impact-driven approach to solving critical global health and climate challenges.
SORA Technology is actively building life-saving infrastructure in partnership with governments and local communities across six African nations: Ghana, Sierra Leone, Benin, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, and Kenya. Their work spans innovative applications, from drone-powered malaria control programs to advanced AI-based disease forecasting systems. The company is also backed by notable organizations such as the University of Cambridge’s Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) Canopy program, Triple I for Global Health, and the Business Leaders’ Coalition for Global Health.
