Ethio Telecom has announced the signing of an agreement with the Oromia Agriculture Bureau to launch an integrated big data-powered platform tailored specifically for the agricultural sector. This advanced solution is designed to significantly enhance productivity, efficiency, quality, market access, and profitability within Oromia’s agricultural value chain.
The new Big Data Platform Solution will connect all actors across the agricultural ecosystem—including farmers, agricultural experts, input suppliers, enterprises, distributors, and retailers—thereby fostering seamless coordination between public and private stakeholders. The initiative is expected to improve resource management, pest and disease control, and strengthen market linkages while promoting sustainable, data-driven agricultural practices.
Powered by tele Cloud and initially rolled out in selected woredas (districts), the platform will cover every stage of the agricultural value chain. It will enable digital transactions, support price and supply-demand analysis, and integrate data from multiple sources such as IoT devices, satellite imagery, remote sensing, and field experts. Serving as a central hub for data storage and analysis, the platform aims to enhance institutional collaboration and improve information accessibility across the region.
This data-driven transformation of Oromia’s agriculture is set to play a pivotal role in enabling a smarter, more resilient, and efficient agricultural economy. By leveraging predictive analytics to reduce risks, offer policy insights, optimize resource use, and align production with real market needs, the platform will help establish a sustainable and digitally integrated agricultural value chain.
Ethio Telecom has previously signed multiple partnership agreements with the Oromia National Regional State, including collaborations with the Region’s city administrations and key institutions. Through these efforts, the company has implemented smart solutions and digital services designed to modernize public service delivery and improve citizen livelihoods.
Moving ahead, Ethio Telecom is actively engaging with various administrative offices (bureaus and agencies) of the Oromia Regional State to collaborate on key initiatives. The company has reiterated its commitment to strengthening technological support and similar partnerships by introducing digital solutions aimed at digitalizing the region’s operational systems.
