Ethiopia Secures $3M Boost to Digitize Agriculture
The Agreement between MoA and PxD aims to establish a well-coordinated PMU that ensures the effective implementation of key digital agriculture.
In a significant step towards transforming Ethiopia’s agricultural sector through digital innovation, the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) and Precision Development (PxD) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Project Management Unit (PMU) for the implementation of Ethiopia’s Digital Agriculture Roadmap (DAR).
The MoU was signed by Ethiopia’s Minister of Agriculture, H.E. Dr. Girma Amente, and PxD’s Chief Executive Officer, Niriksha Shetty, during a ceremony underscoring the government’s commitment to leveraging technology to improve agricultural productivity, resilience, and sustainability.
Under this agreement, PxD will lead the operationalization of the PMU with funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The two-year project, running from December 2025 to February 2027, will focus on ensuring the successful execution of key components of the DAR. The total project budget is approximately USD 3 million, fully supported by the Gates Foundation and administered through PxD.
The PMU is expected to provide strategic coordination, technical expertise, and monitoring support, accelerating the adoption of digital solutions across Ethiopia’s agricultural value chain. This collaboration marks a pivotal moment in the country’s journey to modernize its agriculture sector and harness digital tools to support millions of farmers.
