Eutelsat Group has announced it has secured a definitive 15-year license to operate its OneWeb low Earth orbit (LEO) connectivity services in Angola. This achievement marks Eutelsat as the first LEO operator to obtain an operational license in the country, following the recent inauguration of its new ground station site in Luanda.
The license is a significant step in powering Angola’s digital transformation, enabling the deployment of reliable, high-speed space-based LEO connectivity. Eutelsat Group extended its gratitude to H.E. Mário Augusto da Silva Oliveira, Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, along with INACOM and the Government of Angola, for their close collaboration and commitment to building a digitally inclusive future for the nation.
With strong demand, substantial government support, and a dedicated regional team, Eutelsat aims to deliver connectivity that empowers communities and fuels economic growth across Angola. The LEO network represents a major technological advancement for the country, designed to enable immediate connectivity access in remote areas and support critical sectors such as mining, agriculture, logistics, and healthcare.
The low-latency connectivity offered by the LEO network is expected to benefit public institutions, enterprises, and community initiatives, helping to bridge the digital divide and unlock new opportunities throughout the region. Eutelsat Group expressed its sincere thanks to all Angolan authorities, partners, and colleagues who contributed to this milestone and looks forward to supporting Angola’s digital agenda by advancing connectivity where it is most needed.
