The latest edition of the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU ICT Development Index (IDI ), released in late June 2025, indicates that Algeria now ranks 74th globally. This marks a significant advance of 15 places compared to last year’s ranking, where it stood at 89th.

According to the same assessment, by achieving a total score of 86.1 points, Algeria surpasses the global average for the ICT Development Index, which is 78 points. It also exceeds the average for the Arab region (77.6 points), African countries (56.1 points), and the upper-middle-income country group (81.1 points).

It’s worth noting that the ICT Development Index, published by the ITU, is considered the most crucial indicator for measuring and evaluating the level of ICT development in countries worldwide. It’s based on a set of sub-indicators, structured around two main pillars: Universal Connectivity (the extent to which households and individuals are connected to the Internet) and Meaningful Connectivity (related to the beneficial use of the Internet in various fields and at an affordable cost).

This progress reflects the achievements Algeria has made, in line with the insightful vision of the President of the Republic, in the widespread adoption of information and communication technologies across its vast territory, making them accessible to all its citizens, regardless of their place of residence.
