USAF and MTN Launch Network in Abuyong to Strengthen Rural Connectivity in South Sudan
The project was implemented by the Universal service and Access Fund in collaboration with MTN South Sudan as part of a government effort to connect various states with the communication services.
The Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Michael Makuei Lueth has launched MTN Network in Abuyong Payam of Lakes State to ease communication and Government Businesses with the grass roots. This according to the Minister of Information will enable cash transfers between the capital and the states as well enhance education and health services in lake States.
The project was implemented by the Universal service and Access Fund in collaboration with MTN South Sudan as part of a government effort to connect various states with the communication services. According to the Ministry, this important exercise will be followed by another three networks after the current rainy season in Greater Pibor and Cuebet to also help address security issues challenging the local authorities in the states. In his remarks after launching the network, The Minister of Information said this network will help boost economic activities, education and health services in Abuyung.
However, The Minister of Information in Lakes State who represents the Governor, Ring Tueny Mabor at the function pleads with the Ministry to boost the coverage of the network saying it is not covering more than five (5) kilometers.
According to the secretary general of the universal service and access fund (USAF), Mabe Emmanuel will be addressed as soon as possible as USAF has already plans to boost the towers and improve connectivity. MTN Chief Executive officer, Mapula Bodibe also promised to work with USAF to enhance connectivity and provide adequate supply to ensure the network is not interrupted.
MTN CEO said they would continue working closely with the Government to ensure that the network reaches unconnected areas and realized the vision of moving towns to rural areas.
