U.S. Consulate, Ogun State Launch ‘Window on America’ to Boost Digital Access in Nigeria
The project aims to expand digital access and foster skills development among Nigerian youths through a state-of-the-art ICT and resource center.
The United States Consulate, in partnership with the Ogun State Government and GFA Technologies , has officially launched the ‘Window on America’ initiative at the Ogun Tech Hub in Abeokuta. The project aims to expand digital access and foster skills development among Nigerian youths through a state-of-the-art ICT and resource center.
Speaking at the event, Governor Dapo Abiodun urged young Nigerians to leverage opportunities in the ICT sector to become self-reliant and globally competitive. He described the initiative as a visionary public-private partnership designed to connect the aspirations of Nigerian youth with global innovation ecosystems.
The American Window, located within the Ogun Tech Hub, offers a range of free programs and facilities, including digital literacy workshops, English conversation clubs, discussions on global affairs, and access to American-authored books, digital resources, and academic databases. The space is designed to support entrepreneurship, leadership development, and cross-cultural exchange.
Governor Abiodun emphasized that Ogun State’s investment in digital infrastructure, such as fiber optic connectivity, innovation clusters, and tech education, underscores its commitment to inclusive economic development. He noted that the new center is more than a learning space—it is a platform for knowledge sharing, skills building, and international collaboration.
Representing the U.S. Consulate, Acting Consular General JoEllen Gorg described the project as a testament to strong and innovative leadership. She explained that the center is part of a wider network of 29 American Spaces across Nigeria and the second in Ogun State, designed to empower youth and broaden access to global knowledge and opportunities.
The center is equipped with modern computers, high-speed internet, and access to thousands of books and scholarly resources via electronic libraries. The U.S. Consulate encouraged students, creatives, entrepreneurs, and educators to explore the full range of opportunities the space provides.
Also speaking at the event, Debo Omololu, CEO of GFA Technologies, revealed that his company has invested over ₦400 million in the state and employed more than 1,000 software engineers. He urged young people to take full advantage of the program to position themselves for the future digital economy.
Earlier in the day, the Acting Consular General paid a courtesy visit to Governor Abiodun at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, further reinforcing the strategic collaboration between the U.S. and Ogun State in advancing ICT access and innovation.
The Window on America initiative is expected to significantly boost youth empowerment, digital inclusion, and international engagement in Ogun State and beyond.
