African Telecommunications Union Launches Digital Transformation Drive for SMEs
This significant collaborative effort aims to accelerate the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across Africa.

The African Telecommunications Union (ATU) has partnered with the China Academy of ICT (CAICT) and other key collaborators at a World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) session to unveil a new Digital Transformation initiative specifically designed for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). This significant collaborative effort aims to accelerate the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across Africa.
ATU Secretary-General, John Omo, presented the initiative during a WSIS session focused on cultivating collaborative innovation ecosystems. The program highlights a shared commitment among the ICT community to equip small businesses with essential digital capabilities.
The ATU recognizes small businesses as fundamental to inclusive growth, making their digital empowerment a top priority shared with CAICT and the broader ICT community. The Union firmly supports this new initiative.
The program’s design is focused on translating practical concepts into tangible progress towards the SDGs by strengthening the digital competencies of SMEs, which are seen as vital engines for inclusive economic development. The ATU anticipates the successful implementation of the program and its positive impact on sustainable development.
