This effort is seen as vital to ensure network redundancy, improve broadband quality, and support Sierra Leone’s ambitions of becoming a regional digital hub.

A high-level delegation from Sierra Leone is currently in Guinea to assess the feasibility of establishing a second submarine cable landing, a move aimed at strengthening the country’s international connectivity, enhancing digital resilience, and promoting long-term economic competitiveness.

The visit, led by the Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation , focuses on evaluating the technical, financial, and regulatory requirements for deploying an additional undersea cable infrastructure. This effort is seen as vital to ensure network redundancy, improve broadband quality, and support Sierra Leone’s ambitions of becoming a regional digital hub.

Key objectives of the mission include:

  • Exploring strategic partnerships to support the cable project
  • Assessing environmental and logistical considerations for landing sites
  • Identifying technology providers and optimal routing options
  • Studying public-private partnership (PPP) models for sustainable operations
  • Strengthening regional cooperation in digital infrastructure development

The delegation aims to gather insights from Guinea’s connectivity ecosystem while building cross-border collaboration to support shared digital development goals in West Africa.

This initiative aligns with Sierra Leone’s broader digital transformation strategy, reinforcing its commitment to securing high-capacity, future-ready infrastructure that can unlock new opportunities in innovation, trade, and economic inclusion.
