Econet Telecom Lesotho Rolls Out Wi-Fi PLUS to Meet Growing Connectivity Demands in Lesotho
The service aims to deliver fast, reliable, and seamless internet, supporting everything from streaming and remote work to e-learning and smart-home technologies.

Econet Telecom Lesotho (ETL) has launched Wi-Fi PLUS, a next-generation internet solution designed to meet the evolving connectivity needs of homes and businesses across the country. The service aims to deliver fast, reliable, and seamless internet, supporting everything from streaming and remote work to e-learning and smart-home technologies.
Wi-Fi PLUS is the result of ongoing investments in ETL’s infrastructure, including a major Radio Access Network (RAN) and transport network upgrade that began in February 2025. The first phase has already been completed in Maseru, with the next stages set to be implemented by July 30, 2025.
Key Features of Wi-Fi PLUS
- High-Speed Performance Powered by ETL’s upgraded 4G network and expanded 5G rollout, Wi-Fi PLUS provides improved speed and signal stability. The number of 5G sites in Lesotho is being increased from 54 to 149, using the 700 MHz spectrum to ensure deeper coverage and better penetration.
- Enhanced Network Capacity The modernized transport backbone and phased deployment of high-capacity radio units significantly improve overall network performance and reduce congestion.
- AI-Driven Reliabilities has integrated artificial intelligence into its network operations, enabling predictive maintenance, real-time optimization, and rapid fault resolution.
Optimized Customer Experience Site-by-site deployments are being conducted to ensure quality and minimize disruptions. While some temporary interruptions may occur, ETL has assured customers that these will be brief and managed with care.
WiFi PLUS is more than a connectivity solution; it is part of a broader national transformation. The upgraded infrastructure enables smoother video conferencing, uninterrupted digital learning, and more efficient business operations. It also supports key sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, and financial services, further strengthening Lesotho’s digital economy.
By July 30, 2025, ETL aims to complete the current phase of upgrades, paving the way for nationwide availability of Wi-Fi PLUS. With improved core network capacity, wider 5G coverage, and reduced congestion, customers can expect a consistent and high-quality internet experience well into the future.
WiFi PLUS represents a significant step forward in Econet Telecom Lesotho’s commitment to delivering innovative, future-ready telecommunications solutions that support both individual and national growth.
