Zambia Launches 4G Pilot in Chongwe to Boost e-Health and e-Learning Connectivity
The project aims to enhance efficiency and service delivery in healthcare and education through the implementation of SmartCare Pro, an e-record health system, and e-learning, respectively.

In a significant step towards Zambia’s digital transformation, the e-Government Division (SMART Zambia Institute) has successfully deployed a 4G pilot project in Chongwe District.
The project, implemented in collaboration with IHM Southern Africa , provides high-speed internet connectivity to the Chongwe Rural Health Centre and Chongwe Secondary School, covering a radius of almost 5km, and aims to enhance efficiency and service delivery in healthcare and education through the implementation of SmartCare Pro, an e-record health system, and e-learning, respectively.
Speaking during a walk-through, SMART Zambia National Coordinator, Mr Percy Chinyama, emphasized the importance of the 4G initiative in reducing the cost of deploying technology in unserved and underserved communities.

IHM Southern Africa’s CEO, Mr Kelvin Sikwibele , highlighted the significance of collaboration in providing affordable internet connectivity in healthcare and education.

Meanwhile, SMART Zambia’s GCTO, Ms. Kasali Musenge, noted that this was just a pilot project, adding that the initiative would be rolled out to other unserved and underserved communities across the country.
The Officer in Charge of Chongwe Rural Health Centre, Ms. Mable Changala, appreciated the high-speed internet connectivity enabling seamless SmartCare Pro administration. The headteacher of Chongwe Secondary School Mr. Lottie Mbewe also explained how the internet connectivity has improved teaching and e-learning at the institution.
At the end of the walk-through, SMART Zambia’s Acting Director of Network Management, Mr. Paison Chikoye, emphasized that the innovation would make it easier for the government to provide affordable internet connectivity to the health, education, and other sectors, extending the frontiers of digital transformation.
