LINX Launches Internet Exchange Point in Ghana to Boost West Africa’s Digital Ecosystem
The launch of LINX Accra builds on this momentum, reinforcing Ghana’s reputation as a critical global node for data exchange and technology innovation.
The London Internet Exchange (LINX) has officially launched LINX Accra, a new Internet Exchange Point (IXP) designed to strengthen Ghana’s digital infrastructure and position the country as a key interconnection hub for West Africa. With full deployment expected in 2025, LINX Accra will be a fully redundant, interconnected, multi-site fabric that enhances the resilience and scalability of digital services in Ghana.
Ghana’s strategic location and robust international connectivity—fueled by six subsea cable systems—have made it one of Africa’s most digitally connected nations. Investments in data centres and digital infrastructure have accelerated the country’s transformation into a regional digital leader. The launch of LINX Accra builds on this momentum, reinforcing Ghana’s reputation as a critical global node for data exchange and technology innovation.
Phase one of the IXP’s rollout will be hosted across Onix and PAIX data centres, ensuring redundancy and ease of interconnection for network operators. This setup allows networks at either facility to peer via a single cross-connect, giving them access to LINX’s peering services and improving network performance while reducing costs.
At the launch event in Accra, the Honourable Minister Samuel Nartey George, Ghana’s Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, delivered a keynote address, affirming the government’s commitment to digital transformation and local interconnection. His presence at the event signaled strong national support for initiatives that strengthen data sovereignty and digital growth.
LINX also partnered with the Internet Society Ghana Chapter to deliver technical training to local engineers through the Ghana Network Operators Group (GhNOG). This effort aims to build local expertise and ensure long-term sustainability of the country’s Internet infrastructure.
“Ghana has incredible potential for Internet growth. With increasing demand, new investments, and a vibrant local tech scene, the conditions are ripe for growth.”
–Nurani Nimpuno, Head of Global Engagement, LINX.
She emphasized the importance of collaboration and community in building a resilient digital ecosystem.
As LINX Accra prepares for full launch in 2025, it promises to boost Internet performance, attract global digital services, and catalyze innovation and economic growth across the region.
