July 22, 2025
2 min read

The visit aims to significantly strengthen bilateral cooperation in the Information, Communications, and Technology (ICT/TEHAMA) sector between the two East African nations.

Hon. Jerry William Silaa, Tanzania’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, commenced a two-day official visit to Uganda on July 21, 2025, at the invitation of Uganda’s Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi. The visit aims to significantly strengthen bilateral cooperation in the Information, Communications, and Technology (ICT/TEHAMA) sector between the two East African nations.

On the first day of his visit, Minister Silaa officially inaugurated a new data center belonging to Kilimanjaro Telecom Co. Limited in Uganda. This facility is poised to become a crucial hub for national backbone services, playing a vital role in storing and distributing communications for both domestic use within Uganda and for neighboring countries.

Following the data center opening, Minister Silaa also visited Kilimanjaro Telecom Co. Limited’s offices, acknowledging them as a key customer of internet services provided through Tanzania’s National Communications Network, distributed by the Tanzania Communications Organization (TTCL).

During his engagements, Minister Silaa lauded the growing cooperation between Tanzania and Uganda in enhancing ICT infrastructure. He emphasized the critical role of such partnerships, stating that certain communication and regional cooperation will enable digital revolution for Africa.

The ongoing visit is expected to pave the way for deeper collaboration between Tanzania and Uganda across various ICT aspects, including the linkage of ICT infrastructure, digital marketing strategies, and the leveraging of technology for inclusive development across the region.
