Kenya’s Economy Gets a Digital Boost as Freight & Warehousing Unveil Bold New Strategy
This move is in direct alignment with the core objectives of the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy (MICDE), particularly its focus on developing Kenya's digital space.
Kenya’s logistics sector is set for a significant digital transformation following the official launch of the Kenya International Freight and Warehousing Association (KIFWA) Strategic Plan 2025-2030 and the unveiling of its new logo. The launch event was presided over by Hon. William Kabogo Gitau, signaling strong government support for the initiative.
KIFWA, which serves as the sole representative body for all clearing, forwarding, and warehousing companies in Kenya, has anchored its new strategic plan on six key pillars. Central to this plan is a robust digital agenda, which aims to leverage a digital-centralized clearing and forwarding management system. This move is in direct alignment with the core objectives of the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy (MICDE), particularly its focus on developing Kenya’s digital space.
Hon. William Kabogo Gitau emphasized the critical role the logistics sector plays as a key enabler of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). He highlighted its substantial contribution through job creation and expanding market access for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The MICDE, he noted, is a crucial facilitator in digitizing services under the “Digital Superhighway” initiative and is actively supporting the digital transformation of the logistics sector.
In his address, Hon. Kabogo urged all sector players to foster collaborative efforts. He called for collective action to ensure user trust, regulatory compliance, and the creation of an environment conducive to lowering trade costs. The ultimate goal, he stated, is to solidify Kenya’s position as the gateway of choice for continental trade.
The event saw the attendance of prominent figures from both public and private sectors, including KIFWA’s National Chairman Mr. Fredrick Aloo, Kenya Ports Authority CEO Captain William K. Ruto, Director General Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) Mr. Justus Omae Nyarandi, and FEAFFA Executive Director Mr. John Mathenge.
