Kenya’s Minister William Kabogo Pledges Strong Support for Emerging Digital Media Creators

Hon. William Kabogo Gitau, Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy,  recently met with a vibrant group of young digital media creators to discuss the evolving landscape of digital storytelling in Kenya.

During the meeting, Kabogo acknowledged the growing influence of digital creators, reporters, and influencers who are shaping narratives in real time and engaging audiences directly online, alongside traditional media.

“While traditional media continues to play a central role in news dissemination, this generation of digital creators, reporters, and influencers is carving out their own powerful niche — reporting events in real-time, shaping narratives, and engaging audiences directly online.”

The discussion covered key challenges such as monetization, visibility, and the need for clear digital policy frameworks. Kabogo assured the group of the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to support their efforts and foster collaboration.

“We agreed to collaborate, share ideas, and build pathways that will unlock economic value from their creativity and innovation in the digital space. Kenya’s digital future is bright and these young digital voices are a big part of it.”

He concluded by emphasising the bright future of Kenya’s digital economy, highlighting the critical role of these young digital voices in shaping that future.
