The GIGA project's core objective is to ensure that educational institutions across Gabon have access to the internet.

In a significant step towards advancing digital education, the Gabonese Ministry of Digital Economy, Digitalisation and Innovation is partnering with UNICEF GABON  to implement the GIGA project, a global initiative aimed at providing universal internet access to schools.

On Thursday, July 24, 2025, the Minister of Digital Economy, Digitalisation and Innovation, M. Mark Alexandre Doumba, met with UNICEF GABON representative Dr. Marie-Reine Chirezi Fabry. The meeting focused on introducing the GIGA project, which seeks to connect all schools to the internet and to map existing connectivity data to strategically guide future investments in digital education.

The GIGA project’s core objective is to ensure that educational institutions across Gabon have access to the internet. It also aims to foster a collaborative environment with relevant government ministries to build a robust and sustainable digital infrastructure specifically for the education sector.

Minister Doumba expressed strong support for the initiative, highlighting its crucial role within Gabon’s national priorities. He emphasized that the digital transformation of administration and social services, including key sectors like education and health, is central to the country’s development agenda.

The Minister reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment to actively support UNICEF and its partners in bringing these projects to fruition. This collaboration aligns with the vision of His Excellency Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, the Head of State and Head of Government, for a more inclusive, connected, and efficient Gabon.
