Ghana Launches Ministerial AI Bootcamp to Mainstream Artificial Intelligence in Government
Organised in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the bootcamp brings together policymakers and technical representatives from across government to co-develop AI-driven solutions specific to their respective sectors.
The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, has inaugurated a three-day Ministerial AI Bootcamp designed to strengthen the capacity of Cabinet Ministers, Ministers of State, and designated focal persons in the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into public service delivery.
Organised in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP ), the bootcamp brings together policymakers and technical representatives from across government to co-develop AI-driven solutions specific to their respective sectors.
Speaking at the launch, Hon. George stressed the need for Ghana to leverage AI to enhance governance, improve service delivery, and strengthen national security.
“We must begin to use artificial intelligence in many of our embassies to analyse and determine the profile of individuals entering the country.”

He clarified that the objective is not to turn policymakers into coders but to equip them with the necessary understanding to inform and shape AI-related policies. For instance, he suggested the Ministry of Health could use AI-powered systems to monitor communicable diseases through hospital data—an outcome that could serve as a KPI developed from the bootcamp.
The programme, backed by President John Dramani Mahama, reflects a whole-of-government approach to AI adoption. According to Hon. Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff, who officially opened the event, all Ministries are expected to develop actionable AI use cases and implementation roadmaps by the close of the programme on Sunday, with support from the Ministry and technical oversight from UNDP.
