The discussion is part of a broader push to attract development finance for the nationwide rollout of fibre infrastructure that aims to connect every region, state, Local Government Area, and ward in Nigeria.

Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy , Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, has announced an engagement with the Director General of the Kuwait Fund as part of ongoing efforts to secure funding for Project BRIDGE—the federal government’s flagship fibre infrastructure initiative.

In a statement shared, Dr. Tijani revealed that he formally presented the vision and technical scope of Project BRIDGE to the Kuwait Fund during a meeting in Abuja. The discussion is part of a broader push to attract development finance for the nationwide rollout of fibre infrastructure that aims to connect every region, state, Local Government Area, and ward in Nigeria.

“This isn’t just a project,” the Minister wrote. “It’s a mission to build the digital backbone that unlocks opportunity, drives productivity, and transforms our economy from the ground up.”

Project BRIDGE is designed to deliver up to 90,000 kilometres of open-access fibre infrastructure, implemented under a public–private partnership model through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV). The federal government will retain a minority equity stake in the SPV, with the rest financed by a blend of development finance institutions and private investment.

According to the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, the infrastructure will be climate-resilient and built along existing transport and energy corridors to reduce costs and accelerate deployment. The project also includes provisions for local fibre production, skills training, and job creation, and is expected to connect millions of underserved Nigerians to reliable broadband internet.

While no financing agreement was announced immediately, Dr. Tijani’s meeting with the Kuwait Fund signals Nigeria’s continued diplomatic and technical outreach to international institutions to support the country’s connectivity ambitions under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
