Starlink Launches in Somalia, Boosting Connectivity in Underserved Areas

The deployment marks a major step toward closing Somalia’s digital divide and enabling broader participation in the digital economy.

Starlink  has officially launched high-speed internet services in Somalia, making it the company’s 25th market in Africa. Approved by the National Communications Authority in April 2025, the rollout supports national efforts to expand digital infrastructure and improve internet access in line with the Somali National ICT Policy.

With more than 70% of the population lacking reliable broadband, Starlink’s entry is expected to strengthen digital inclusion, particularly in remote and underserved communities. Although the service is priced at SOS 40,000 (USD 70) per month with an upfront hardware fee of SOS 220,000 (USD 390), its low-latency, high-speed offering could appeal to users seeking better connectivity despite affordability concerns.
