Congo Nears Completion of Landmark National Data Center, Aims for November 2025 Launch

Launched in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB), the state-of-the-art facility is strategically located in Brazzaville’s second arrondissement.

DRC is set to unveil its first National Data Center by November 2025, marking a major milestone in the country’s digital transformation agenda. With construction more than 90% complete, the facility represents a strategic move toward technological sovereignty and will serve as a key pillar of the Central African digital ecosystem.

Launched in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB ), the state-of-the-art facility is strategically located in Brazzaville’s second arrondissement. Once operational, the three-story data centre will eliminate the need for foreign server reliance and host critical government and private sector data, advancing the country’s ambitions in e-governance, cybersecurity, and digital self-reliance.

AfDB officials, including Léandre Bassolé, General Manager for Africa, recently conducted an inspection visit, praising the quality and speed of execution. Commitments from Congo’s Ministry of Planning and Ministry of Finance have ensured the final stages of the project will be completed on time.

Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and the Digital Economy, Léon Juste Ibombo, emphasised that the facility is more than a technological investment—it is a symbol of sovereignty.

Designed with modern infrastructure including intelligent cooling systems, secure monitoring zones, and advanced data management tools, the facility is expected to set a new benchmark for Central Africa. It will also support the region’s broader Central African Backbone project, offering capacity and interconnection options for neighbouring countries.

The inauguration, set for November 28 to coincide with President Denis Sassou N’Guesso’s State of the Nation address, is expected to symbolise Congo’s digital readiness to the international community.

“You cannot talk about e-governance without sovereignty over your data. We are working hard to meet the deadline for President Denis Sassou N’Guesso to inaugurate it no later than November 28, when he will deliver his State of the Nation address.”

– Léon Juste Ibombo, Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and the Digital Economy, DRC

Beyond infrastructure, the Data Center will play a catalytic role in shaping Congo’s digital economy by supporting startups, attracting investment, and creating skilled tech jobs. With this development, Congo joins a growing list of African nations investing in homegrown digital infrastructure to assert greater control over data, ensure security, and participate more fully in the global digital economy.
