Vitel Wireless, Nigeria’s pioneering Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), has officially launched its nationwide mobile services, marking a significant milestone in the country’s telecommunications landscape. With the activation of its dedicated 0712 number range, Vitel becomes the first MVNO in Nigeria to be assigned a unique number series by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC ).
The company’s commercial debut was announced this week, accompanied by the release of 50,000 SIM cards and eSIMs in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The initial batch has been made available to select subscribers as part of a phased distribution plan aimed at ensuring quality onboarding and network reliability.
In a major boost to its service delivery, Vitel Wireless also confirmed a strategic roaming partnership with MTN Nigeria. This integration allows Vitel subscribers to access robust nationwide coverage, including in remote and underserved areas. According to the company, the collaboration will deliver stronger signal quality, longer-lasting data usage, and seamless connectivity—key benefits designed to match the evolving lifestyle of modern mobile users.
Chudi Nwabueze, Chief Operating Officer at Vitel Wireless, described the developments as a bold step toward building a smarter, more inclusive telecom ecosystem. Vitel also announced the successful completion of interconnectivity with all major Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) in Nigeria. This breakthrough positions the company to offer unrestricted nationwide calling, SMS, and data services while operating entirely as an independent virtual network.
From reliable voice and SMS to intelligent data management, Vitel Wireless is positioning itself as a new kind of telecom provider—digitally agile, customer-focused, and ready to redefine mobile access in Africa’s largest telecommunications market. Consumers can now purchase SIM cards directly or through selected retail partners across the country.
