ICT Authority and State Officials Launch Hackathon to Boost Digital Governance in Kenya
This project focuses on strengthening digital infrastructure, enhancing digital skills, and building innovation ecosystems across all counties.
More than 100 young Kenyan coders convened at Tom Mboya University for a 48-hour coding challenge aimed at developing digital solutions to enhance public participation in governance. The event, a first of its kind, serves as a kickoff to the #DevolutionConference2025.
The hackathon brings together youth, innovation, and a clear purpose to leverage technology for civic engagement. Attending the event were several dignitaries, including Principal Secretary for the State Department for ICT and Digital Economy, Eng. John Tanui, Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, and Council of Governors CEO Mary Mwiti, among other senior government officials.
The initiative is supported by the ICT Authority , which is working to create a thriving environment for such innovations through programs like the Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Project (KDEAP). This project focuses on strengthening digital infrastructure, enhancing digital skills, and building innovation ecosystems across all counties.
The goal is to empower young developers to build, innovate, and ultimately use technology to shape the future of devolution in Kenya.
