NamRA Rolls Out New Digital and POS Methods to Streamline Tax Compliance

Taxpayers can now settle their obligations via three primary methods: Electronic Fund Transfers (EFT), direct deposits, and cash or Point-of-Sale (POS) transactions.

The Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA)  has introduced simplified, accessible options for taxpayers to make Domestic Tax payments, aiming to improve efficiency and compliance. Taxpayers can now settle their obligations via three primary methods: Electronic Fund Transfers (EFT), direct deposits, and cash or Point-of-Sale (POS) transactions.

NamRA has provided designated bank accounts at the Bank of Namibia for different tax categories, including a revenue account for any payments except VAT, and a VAT-dedicated account. Taxpayers are reminded to include their Tax Identification Number (TIN) and relevant tax period in payment references for accurate allocation.

EFT payments must follow a strict reference format incorporating the registration office code, TIN, and tax type. Payments in Namibian Dollars and South African Rands are accepted nationwide during business hours, with POS machines available at most revenue offices.

NamRA has also published an ITAS coding list for various tax types, such as income tax, VAT, royalties, and environmental levies, alongside corresponding registration office codes to ensure proper processing.

The agency urges all taxpayers to use the correct referencing format to avoid delays and penalties and offers a dedicated contact line at 061 209 2400 for payment assistance.
