Oman’s TRA Temporarily Suspends Mobile Number Portability in Oman

August 14, 2025
1 min read

This transition is a key component of the authority’s broader vision to enhance the quality of services, accelerate digital transformation, and foster a more competitive market for consumers.

In a strategic move to upgrade its telecommunications infrastructure, Oman’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA)  has temporarily suspended its mobile number portability service. The decision, which took effect on Monday, impacts all telecom providers across the Sultanate.

The TRA announced that the suspension is a necessary step to facilitate the migration to a new and improved Central Number Portability System. This transition is a key component of the authority’s broader vision to enhance the quality of services, accelerate digital transformation, and foster a more competitive market for consumers.

Customers who were planning to switch providers while keeping their existing mobile numbers were advised to complete their requests before the suspension began to avoid any potential delays. While the temporary halt may cause minor inconvenience, the TRA’s initiative is expected to pave the way for a more seamless and efficient experience for customers in the future. The new system is designed to not only allow for easier number transfers but also to enable customers to benefit from better network services as the telecom sector evolves.
