Vodacom Group CEO Reaffirms Investment Commitment to Lesotho
The strategy outlines a commitment to five key areas: investing in local communities, promoting environmental sustainability, enhancing customer satisfaction, expanding connectivity, and broadening access to mobile money services for underserved populations.
Shameel Joosub, the Group CEO of Vodacom, was in Lesotho this week to strengthen the company’s ties with the nation and reinforce its commitment to the country’s development. During his visit, Mr. Joosub met with Prime Minister Sam Matekane and his delegation, where he pledged continued investment to support Lesotho’s journey toward an improved economy through digital transformation.
The discussions with the Prime Minister highlighted Vodacom’s plans to help the government facilitate online payments for state services, thereby improving efficiency and access for citizens. Joosub also emphasized the company’s ongoing efforts to tackle youth unemployment by providing free digital and tech skills training to young people in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
In addition to his official meetings, Mr. Joosub addressed Vodacom Lesotho employees, expressing his gratitude for their service to the Basotho people. He also shared the Vodacom Group’s new strategic direction for 2030.
