Liberia Completes First-Ever Digital Village, A Milestone for National Connectivity
Led by Minister Sekou Kromah, the project marks a major step toward bridging the digital divide and promoting sustainable development in the nation.
The Government of Liberia, through its Ministry of Posts & Telecommunications , has announced a significant achievement in the country’s technological development: the completion of Liberia’s first-ever Digital Village. Led by Minister Sekou Kromah, the project marks a major step toward bridging the digital divide and promoting sustainable development in the nation.
The new Digital Village, located in the Foya District of Lofa County, is a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide essential services to the local community. It will offer green energy internet connectivity to more than 50 homes, including critical infrastructure like schools, hospitals, clinics, churches, and mosques within a 2.5-kilometer radius.
In addition to connectivity, the Digital Village will feature smart classrooms to enhance the educational experience for students and equip them with skills for the digital age. A key aspect of the initiative is its commitment to sustainability, providing free solar electricity to over 100 households in the Foya district.
The project was made possible through a partnership with Huawei, a global leader in information and communications technology (ICT) solutions. This collaboration underscores the Liberian government’s commitment to working with international partners to improve its telecommunications sector.
“We are committed to leveraging technology to drive development and improve the lives of our citizens.”
– Sekou Kromah, Minister of Posts & Telecommunications, Republic of Liberia
He also pledged to continue engaging with international partners to ensure the ongoing improvement of Liberia’s telecommunication sector.
The Digital Village is expected to be officially launched soon, a moment that will be celebrated as a significant milestone in Liberia’s journey toward becoming a digitally enabled nation. This initiative is a testament to the government’s efforts to use technology as a tool for national growth and the well-being of its citizens.
