Zambia Launches Online Entrepreneurship Training to Empower Youth
Upon completion, graduates will receive a recognised qualification under the TEVET framework, endorsed by government and industry.
The Ministry of Technology and Science has officially launched an online entrepreneurship training programme aimed at equipping young Zambians with the skills and mindset to create jobs and contribute to the country’s socio-economic transformation.
Speaking at the launch, Permanent Secretary Eng. Dr. Brilliant Habeenzu described the programme as a timely intervention to empower youth with practical, market-oriented skills in business development.
Zambia faces high youth unemployment, with levels estimated between 17% and 20%. More than 60% of the population is under the age of 25, and over 90% of young entrepreneurs operate in the informal sector without adequate access to skills, finance, or markets.
The new eight-week course will cover the full spectrum of entrepreneurship, from idea generation and business planning to digital marketing and financial management. A total of 100 students have been selected from 20 TEVET and higher learning institutions across all ten provinces of Zambia. Participants will study online at their own pace while also engaging at physical entrepreneurial hubs for networking, peer learning, and problem-solving.
Upon completion, graduates will receive a recognised qualification under the TEVET framework, endorsed by government and industry. The programme supports the objectives of the National Youth Policy, Vision 2030, the TEVET policy’s focus on innovation, and aligns with both the UN Sustainable Development Goal 8 and the African Union Agenda 2063.
Dr. Habeenzu expressed gratitude to the Embassy of Finland, Omnia Education Partnerships, and TEVET institutions for their role in making the programme possible. He also called for mentorship, incubation, market access, and financing support to extend the impact of the training beyond the classroom.
