Egypt’s Telecommunications Regulator Moves to Curb Nuisance Promotional Calls
In a statement, the Authority said that mobile devices found to be making unsolicited promotional calls in violation of existing regulations will be disconnected.

The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA ) of Egypt has announced new technical and regulatory measures aimed at tackling nuisance promotional calls, effective from Sunday, 24 August 2025.
In a statement, the Authority said that mobile devices found to be making unsolicited promotional calls in violation of existing regulations will be disconnected. The decision follows continued complaints from citizens who reported repeated disturbances and privacy violations caused by such calls.
The NTRA explained that special regulatory rules governing the use of mobile lines for promotional and commercial purposes had already been approved. These rules require companies to register their numbers and promotional activity with telecom operators. Since their introduction last year, nearly one million subscribers have enrolled in the service, enabling recipients to see the caller’s name and number before deciding whether to answer.
However, companies and individuals who continue to place promotional calls without registering remain in violation of the law. The Authority urged them to regularise their activities with telecom providers to avoid disconnection of devices used for such calls.
In addition to disconnection measures, the regulator confirmed that it would continue to pursue legal action against violators. Offending companies face penalties under Article 76 of Law No. 10 of 2003 on Communications Regulation and Article 25 of Law No. 175 of 2018 on Combating Information Technology Crimes, which include imprisonment and fines.
To further protect users, the NTRA has provided multiple reporting channels for citizens who receive anonymous or unsolicited promotional calls. Complaints may be lodged through telecom company call centres, the regulator’s hotline (155), its “My NTRA” mobile application, or via the dedicated website .
