August 22, 2025
2 min read

Dr Shanapinda said the tower was the result of effective collaboration and a shared vision among various stakeholders, inclusive of Powercom, Telecom Namibia and the Local Authority.

PowerCom,  a subsidiary of Telecom Namibia , has officially launched a new mobile network tower at Oikokola in the Etayi Constituency.

The event, which expands connectivity in the Omusati Region, was attended by an array of distinguished guests, including the Honourable Minister of Information and Communication Technology and the Honourable Governor of the Omusati Region. Among the key invitees was Dr. Stanley Shanapinda, CEO of Telecom Namibia, who was present to lend his support and to confirm TN has activated 2G, 3G and 4G mobile services on the tower.

Addressing the gathering as a guest speaker, Dr. Shanapinda described the tower as a significant milestone in our ongoing mission to connect every corner of Namibia to reliable telecommunications services. He confirmed that the project is part of Telecom Namibia’s Integrated Strategic Business Plan (ISBP), which has been approved by the Government.

Dr. Shanapinda also emphasized that the initiative aligns with the government’s newly launched Digital Strategy, which aims to provide fast internet connectivity. He noted that Telecom Namibia’s mobile network now impressively covers about 93% of the population with 2G, 3G, or 4G services. The new Oikokola tower is expected to strengthen mobile coverage, transforming previous “dead zones” into vital hubs of connectivity for residents and businesses in the area.

The CEO emphasized that building new towers, especially in rural areas, brings vastly improved connectivity to citizens and businesses, stimulating the development of other enterprises and increasing the effectiveness of communication across the whole country.

“In short, connectivity is a catalyst for socio-economic growth. It helps level the playing field between urban and rural communities by bringing digital services and information right to everyone’s fingertips.”

PowerCom is 100% owned by Telecom Namibia and has been working tirelessly to expand our tower infrastructure in line with national development goals.
