Somalia’s Ministry of Communications and UNDP Launch IT Training to Equip Youth with Digital Skills

The Federal Government of Somalia’s Ministry of Communications and Technology (MoCT ), in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP ), has launched a three-day training program aimed at equipping Somali youth with critical digital skills to thrive in the global economy.
The program was officially opened by Mr. Farah Abdinoor, Director General of the Ministry of Communications and Technology, and is specifically designed for students specializing in Information Technology (IT).
Over the course of the training, participants will work in teams under the guidance of professional facilitators. The sessions cover a diverse range of in-demand digital skills, including digital marketing, online business, data analysis, software development, cybersecurity, and UI/UX design.
Participants welcomed the initiative, highlighting that such skills are essential for modern progress and can open up employment opportunities both within Somalia and internationally.
The MoCT, in collaboration with UNDP, emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader effort to build digital capacity among Somali youth, ensuring they can keep pace with global technological advancements. Through targeted capacity-building and professional mentorship, the government aims to strengthen Somalia’s digital economy while empowering young people to play a central role in its growth.
