Cameroon’s Camtel Expands Fiber Network and Fixed Telephony Services

September 2, 2025

The initiative, highlighted on the Camtel Actu radio program on 30 August 2025, aims to reinforce the relevance of fixed line services in a mobile-dominated market by offering reliable, secure, and high-quality communication.

Cameroon Telecommunications (Camtel)  has launched a nationwide campaign to promote fixed line phones and expand fiber-optic connectivity to homes and businesses. The initiative, highlighted on the Camtel Actu radio program on 30 August 2025, aims to reinforce the relevance of fixed line services in a mobile-dominated market by offering reliable, secure, and high-quality communication.

The campaign includes a special promotion on wired phones priced between 5,000 and 15,000 francs CFA, allowing households and businesses to access fixed telephony services with caller ID and other added-value features. The operator is also preparing to offer online sales for these devices, making it easier for customers to subscribe and receive equipment directly at their locations.

Camtel emphasized the advantages of fixed line connections, including superior call quality, reliability during high network traffic, and enhanced security compared to mobile phones. The company noted that fixed lines are particularly useful for professionals and families who require uninterrupted, clear communication.

In addition to fixed line services, Camtel continues to develop its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network, providing high-speed internet and integrated telephony solutions. Subscribers benefit from fast broadband, online bill payment, and 24/7 technical support through WhatsApp, with an AI-powered assistant aiding troubleshooting before escalation to technical teams.

The operator reported deploying over 180,000 fiber ports, with a target of 230,000 by the end of the year. These efforts align with Camtel’s strategy to strengthen connectivity across Cameroon, including the expansion of 4G and LTE networks in more than 160 municipalities and preparations for 5G deployment.

Camtel also highlighted upcoming services such as Bluepony, a mobile payment platform designed to enhance financial inclusion, particularly in rural areas. The operator aims to position fiber and fixed line services as essential assets for households, small businesses, and the broader digital economy.
