The bank expressed its keen interest in becoming a reliable payment gateway to ensure that Ghanaian creators receive their rightful earnings.

A team from GCB Bank , led by Chief of Staff Mr. Abraham Ferguson, met with the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), to discuss a potential collaboration aimed at creating a comprehensive payment framework for Ghanaian content creators on TikTok.

The bank expressed its keen interest in becoming a reliable payment gateway to ensure that Ghanaian creators receive their rightful earnings. During the meeting, GCB Bank highlighted its technological readiness and extensive infrastructure to support the creative economy.

“The bank possesses robust connectivity with MasterCard and Visa, enabling it to accept and make payments directly onto cards.”

The team also showcased GCB’s capability to facilitate payouts through multiple channels, including MoMo and direct bank accounts.

“The bank’s primary aim is to find a way for Ghanaians to get paid for their content and manage cash-outs for gifts received.”

Hon. Samuel Nartey George actively championed GCB Bank’s proposal, engaging directly with Ms. Tokumbo Ibrahim, TikTok’s representative for West Africa. He emphasized that utilising GCB Bank as an official payment channel would not only provide a reliable mechanism for content creators but also eliminate the need for third-party services, thereby avoiding significant margins and ensuring greater financial benefit for Ghanaian talent.

The discussions concluded with a commitment from Ms. Tokumbo (TikTok) to review the feasibility of the proposed solution. Mr. Ferguson expressed optimism about the outcome, stating that GCB Bank looks forward to a positive response, which would immediately trigger steps to set up a direct connection between the bank and TikTok.

“This would involve formalising a payment framework in consultation with relevant financial authorities and establishing technical teams to facilitate the seamless integration.”
