Senegal and ITU Boost Collaboration to Shape Global Digital Governance
This engagement marks a key milestone in strengthening ARTP-ITU cooperation to drive socio-economic development through digital technologies.

The Telecommunications and Posts Regulatory Authority of Senegal (ARTP) has advanced its cooperation with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) during the World Regulatory Symposium in Saudi Arabia. ARTP Director General Dahirou Thiam held discussions with ITU Secretary General Doreen Bogdan-Martin on strengthening collaboration between Senegal and the global telecommunications body.
During the meeting, Mr. Thiam outlined ARTP’s inclusive approach in shaping its future strategic plan, designed to reflect the concerns of all stakeholders, including the ITU. The plan will address key priorities such as co-regulation, data governance, artificial intelligence oversight, non-terrestrial network regulation, and the impact of climate change. It will also align with Senegal’s national vision, the 2050 referential and its Technological New Deal.
The ITU Secretary General welcomed the initiative and expressed interest in visiting Senegal, underscoring the importance of the country’s partnership with the organization.
Senegal, a member of the ITU Council since 1972, has consistently played an active role in global digital governance. Dakar also hosts the ITU Regional Office for the West African Zone, further reinforcing the country’s longstanding commitment to advancing electronic communications.
