SMART Zambia Donates 2,000 ICT Devices to Boost Local Government Services
The initiative is expected to improve access to key digital platforms, including the Constituency Development Fund Management Information System (CDF-MIS).
The e-Government Division under the SMART Zambia Institute has officially handed over 2,000 ICT devices to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) in Lusaka. The equipment, worth more than 9 million Kwacha, comprises 1,780 laptops and 220 all-in-one desktop computers. It is intended to strengthen the digital capacity of 116 local authorities, enabling them to deliver more efficient and citizen-centred services.
The initiative is expected to improve access to key digital platforms, including the Constituency Development Fund Management Information System (CDF-MIS). It also aligns with the government’s broader digital transformation agenda under the Electronic Government Act No. 41 of 2021, which seeks to build an inclusive, technology-driven public service.
As part of the broader rollout, the ICT resources will also be distributed to Zambia Postal Services, District Administration offices, and Provincial Monitoring and Evaluation teams, ensuring a nationwide reach.
This intervention reflects government efforts to modernise public service delivery, decentralise operations, and enhance accountability at all levels. By equipping local authorities with modern tools, the initiative is expected to strengthen governance structures and bring services closer to the people.
