Director General Mustafa Duhulow described the launch as a historic step that demonstrates Somalia’s alignment with global digital systems.
The Immigration and Citizenship Agency of Somalia has officially launched its E-VISA/ETAS service, which will take effect from September 1, 2025. The new system allows foreigners to apply for visas electronically via the agency’s official portal , marking a historic milestone in Somalia’s adoption of modern digital immigration systems.
According to the Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Isxaaq Hassan Takow, the platform has been under preparation for a long period and is designed to simplify visa applications by making them accessible to travelers anywhere in the world, with approvals delivered quickly and efficiently. Specially trained officers will oversee the process to ensure smooth operations.
Director General Mustafa Duhulow described the launch as a historic step that demonstrates Somalia’s alignment with global digital systems. He highlighted that the E-VISA will not only enhance immigration services but also strengthen national security, protect sensitive data, improve economic opportunities, and boost service delivery.
Certain categories of travelers, including holders of multiple-entry visas, residents, diplomats, UNLP passport holders, and nationals of countries with visa-free agreements with Somalia, will remain exempt from the E-VISA requirement.
Minister of Interior Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag, emphasized that beginning September 1, all foreign visitors will be required to use the new system. He added that the initiative will bolster national security, enhance monitoring of incoming travelers, increase transparency, and ensure that visa-related revenues are channeled directly into the Ministry of Finance.
This launch places Somalia among a growing number of countries worldwide that have adopted electronic visa systems as part of broader digital transformation efforts.
