Airtel Kenya Moves Into Home Fiber as Demand for High-Speed Internet Surges

September 10, 2025

The move reflects Airtel’s broader strategy to capture a share of Kenya’s expanding broadband market, where subscriptions have surged in recent years.

Airtel Kenya  has kicked off construction of its new Tatu City facility in Nairobi, a $150 million data centre aimed at strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure. At the groundbreaking event on September 9, 2025, Airtel also signalled that it is preparing to launch home fiber services, promising faster and more reliable internet for urban households.

Currently, Airtel serves homes via its Smartbox fixed wireless access device, which offers battery backup and improved indoor coverage. The move reflects Airtel’s broader strategy to capture a share of Kenya’s expanding broadband market, where subscriptions have surged in recent years, and to provide urban homes with the high-speed, stable internet increasingly required for work, education, and entertainment.
