Malawi Expands Connect A School Project with 120 New Smart ICT Labs
The initiative is expected to empower students, bridge the digital divide, and strengthen Malawi’s competitiveness in the knowledge economy.
The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) , through the Universal Service Fund (USF), has launched phase two of the Connect A School (CAS) project, expanding efforts to strengthen digital education across the country.
Groundbreaking ceremonies were held simultaneously at 16 sites in districts including Karonga, Mzimba, Nkhata Bay, Mulanje, Phalombe, Mangochi, Ntcheu, Salima, Lilongwe, and Dedza.
Building on the success of phase one—which saw the construction of 75 ICT labs—the new phase will deliver 120 Smart ICT Labs, each equipped to accommodate 60 computers. To further support digital learning, MACRA, through USF, will provide free internet connectivity for three years in all the facilities.
Officials emphasized that the project aligns with the Malawi 2063 Vision, which positions digital transformation as a cornerstone of national development. The initiative is expected to empower students, bridge the digital divide, and strengthen Malawi’s competitiveness in the knowledge economy.
