Firstmonie Expands POS Network to Deepen Financial Inclusion Across Nigeria
FirstBank says the Firstmonie Agent Network reflects its vision of using digital innovation to tackle poverty, strengthen financial inclusion, and empower individuals and businesses across Nigeria and Africa.
Firstmonie, FirstBank ’s financial inclusion platform, has reinforced its commitment to deepening access to banking services by strengthening support for agents and merchants across Nigeria. The initiative is anchored on the issuance of Point of Sales (POS) devices designed to make financial transactions seamless, secure, and efficient.
The Firstmonie POS devices are built on cutting-edge technology, offering fast transaction processing, instant settlement, and the ability to receive payments through multiple channels including cards and transfers. The devices also come with a real-time transaction reporting dashboard, giving agents and merchants greater control and visibility over daily operations.
Through its Agent Banking model, Firstmonie empowers registered agents to deliver essential financial services such as account opening, cash deposits, withdrawals, money transfers, bill payments, airtime and data purchases, BVN enrolment, and balance enquiries. Customers can easily identify Firstmonie agent locations by visible branding elements such as the official certificate, banners, and blue-and-gold outdoor markings.
The network has grown into one of the largest in Africa, with more than 240,000 agent locations spread across 772 of Nigeria’s 774 local government areas, including the Federal Capital Territory. These agents serve over one million unique customers daily, bridging the gap between formal banking services and underserved communities.
Beyond enabling financial access, Firstmonie’s impact extends to job creation and economic empowerment. The platform has facilitated over 300,000 indirect jobs in the last four years, while agents are increasingly seen as “community heroes” for improving lives and driving financial inclusion in rural and low-income communities.
