The investment reaffirms Vodacom’s strategic role in driving South Africa’s digital transformation and closing the digital divide, particularly in communities that have historically lacked access to reliable, high-speed connectivity.

Vodacom  has announced an investment of just over R435 million in the Northern Gauteng Area (NGA) for the 2025/2026 financial year, underscoring its commitment to digital inclusion, network excellence, and regional development.

The investment will span both the North-West province and the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality, focusing on critical infrastructure upgrades, new site deployments, and advanced technology rollouts to meet rising customer demand and support economic growth.

As part of the initiative, Vodacom will deploy more than 190 new 5G sites, alongside extensive 4G upgrades that include the installation of new 700MHz radio equipment to enhance coverage. Importantly, the company will extend broadband access into underserved communities, such as Ikagaleng township near Zeerust, where residents will, for the first time, have access to speeds of up to 350Mbps.

“This investment reflects Vodacom’s unwavering commitment to empowering communities through connectivity. By expanding and modernising our network across NGA, we’re enabling access to digital services, education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for millions of South Africans.”

Christo De Wet, Managing Executive, Northern Gauteng region, Vodacom
