The program is designed to empower youth with future-ready skills and support Ethiopia’s transformation into a tech-enabled economy.

Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia  has launched TechStart, a nationwide skills development initiative aimed at training 125,000 young Ethiopians in digital and cloud technologies over the next three years. The program is designed to empower youth with future-ready skills and support Ethiopia’s transformation into a tech-enabled economy.

The initiative is being implemented in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) Skills Center and AWS Educate, ensuring that participants gain both foundational knowledge and ongoing learning opportunities. It also forms part of the Vodacom Group’s Africa-wide commitment to upskill one million young people within three years, equipping them to thrive in a rapidly digitizing global economy.

Registration for the program is open to all Ethiopians aged 18 and above who hold an active Safaricom line or SIM card. In addition, the Safaricom Ethiopia Foundation will sponsor certification fees for top-performing students who successfully complete their courses with distinction, helping to reduce financial barriers and broaden access to professional qualifications.

By launching TechStart, Safaricom Ethiopia is positioning itself not only as a telecom provider but also as a driver of youth empowerment, digital literacy, and economic development in Ethiopia, while contributing to the broader regional agenda of building Africa’s digital talent pipeline.
