Airtel Chad Unveils 50 Billion FCFA Investment Plan to Improve Service Quality

September 19, 2025
2 min read

In the short term, within one month, Airtel intends to expand microwave connection capacity, replace aging generators, boost radio capacity on 89 4G sites, upgrade router ports in N’Djamena to 100G, and modernize the SOLE fiber.

Airtel Chad  has unveiled a 50 billion FCFA investment plan aimed at improving network quality and expanding digital connectivity across the country. The plan was presented to the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Posts (ARCEP)  during a meeting chaired by Director General Haliki Choua Mahamat.

The investment will be rolled out in phases. In the short term, within one month, Airtel intends to expand microwave connection capacity, replace aging generators, boost radio capacity on 89 4G sites, upgrade router ports in N’Djamena to 100G, and modernize the SOLE fiber.

By January 2026, medium-term actions will include deploying fiber to connect sites in Massakory, Ati, Dop Dop, and Abéché, expanding radio services to 306 sites, and launching the third phase of metro fiber deployment in N’Djamena.

The long-term plan, set to be completed by June 2026, includes deploying 114 new sites to extend coverage to underserved areas, expanding 4G to 170 additional sites, replacing Ericsson network core equipment with Huawei systems, and extending fiber connectivity to link N’Djamena and Sarh through Dourbali and Bousso.

ARCEP emphasized the importance of compliance with national service quality standards and expressed concern over gaps in subscriber identification. Out of 7.87 million registered subscribers, 77.71% are still linked to outdated ID documents, 21.77% are registered with a National Identification Number, and 0.52%—more than 41,000 numbers—remain unidentified, raising security concerns.

To ensure accountability, Airtel has committed to submitting monthly progress reports on the execution of its investment program. The announcement comes as ARCEP conducts its 15th national audit on service quality, launched on September 15, 2025.
