Djibouti Signs MoU with Visa to Launch National Digital Wallet
The partnership reflects Djibouti’s commitment to building a sustainable digital economy, expanding financial inclusion, and advancing smart governance systems.
The Ministry Delegate in charge of Digital Economy and Innovation (MDENI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Visa as part of Djibouti’s digital transformation agenda under the #Smart_Nation roadmap.
The agreement was formalized during an official three-day visit by a high-level delegation from Visa and Tech5, led by senior executives including the Vice-President and Regional Manager of Government Solutions for the CEMEA zone at Visa, alongside Tech5’s Chief Executive Officer and Vice-President for the Middle East and Africa.
At the meeting, Minister Mariam Hamadou Ali highlighted that the MoU marks a major milestone in accelerating national digital transformation, with the forthcoming launch of Djibouti’s National Digital Wallet (#Smart_Wallet) project. The initiative is designed to provide citizens, entrepreneurs, and residents with secure access to public services, digital payments, and digital identity solutions.
