The Ministry of Health in Ethiopia has signed an agreement with Ethio-Telecom to introduce smart and digital technologies into the country’s pharmaceutical supply chain. Health Minister Dr. Mekdes Daba emphasized that the integration of digital solutions into medicine distribution is a key step in modernizing healthcare. The Ethiopian Pharmaceutical Supply Service will lead the implementation in collaboration with Ethio-Telecom, leveraging advanced technologies to create a flexible and responsive delivery system.
Dr. Abdulkadir Gelgelo, Director of the Ethiopian Pharmaceutical Supply Service, highlighted that the project will establish a smart technology system to ensure medicine distribution is timely, secure, and adaptable to growing health demands.
Ethio-Telecom’s Enterprise Chief Officer, Yohannes Getahun, noted that the company’s new strategy is centered on people-focused solutions. He affirmed Ethio-Telecom’s commitment to supporting the Ministry of Health in enhancing the supply chain with cutting-edge digital systems.
The agreement covers the establishment of a smart operations control center, advanced security management tools, GPS-enabled fleet management, and the development of electric vehicle charging stations. Together, these measures are designed to modernize the delivery of essential medicines across Ethiopia, ensuring greater reliability and sustainability in the health sector.
