Kenya to Establish 1,450 Digital Hubs, Confirms Path to Join Global Digital Cooperation Organization
The initiative, which is designed to expand access to digital tools and opportunities, will empower Kenya’s youthful, highly connected population and fuel innovation-driven growth.
Kenya is accelerating its ambition to become Africa’s leading digital hub, unveiling plans to establish 1,450 digital hubs across the country. The initiative, which is designed to expand access to digital tools and opportunities, will empower Kenya’s youthful, highly connected population and fuel innovation-driven growth.
The announcement was made during the Kenya Tech Partnership meeting, where leaders discussed the nation’s digital transformation roadmap. A key highlight of the session was Kenya’s confirmation of its intention to join the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) , an intergovernmental body focused on building inclusive digital economies across member states.
The DCO, in turn, welcomed Kenya’s membership pathway and reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the government to shape a digital ecosystem that fosters inclusion, innovation, and shared prosperity.
According to Hon. William Kabogo Gitau, Kenya’s move aligns with its broader strategy to leverage technology as a driver of economic empowerment, job creation, and global competitiveness.
By pursuing large-scale investments in digital infrastructure and forging partnerships with international organizations like the DCO, Kenya is seeking not only to strengthen its position as a regional ICT leader, but also to set the pace for Africa’s broader digital economy transformation.
