Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC has officially launched Safaricom Ethiopia TechStart, a nationwide initiative aimed at equipping 125,000 young Ethiopians with critical digital and cloud technology skills over the next three years. The program is designed to support the country’s transition to a tech-enabled economy by providing foundational training and continuous learning opportunities.
The initiative is being implemented in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) Skills Center and AWS Educate, leveraging their expertise to deliver high-quality digital skills education. Safaricom Ethiopia TechStart forms part of Vodacom Group’s broader commitment to upskill 1 million youth across Africa within three years, preparing them to succeed in an increasingly digital world.
Participation is open to any Ethiopian aged 18 years or older with an active Safaricom SIM, allowing a wide pool of young people to benefit from the program. Additionally, the Safaricom Ethiopia Foundation will sponsor certification fees for top-performing participants who successfully complete their courses with distinction, ensuring talented youth can gain formal recognition for their newly acquired skills.
